The Legacy of the M/V Puk-Uk
The historic M/V Puk-Uk is more than a means of transportation—it is an essential part of the expedition itself.
For decades, the vessel served the people and communities of Alaska's Aleutian Islands, becoming deeply connected to the history, culture, and maritime traditions of the North Pacific. Under the leadership of the late Capt. Billy Choate—an Inupiat mariner, poet, and respected Aleutian captain—the Puk-Uk helped shape countless journeys through one of the most remote regions in North America.
Today, the vessel continues that legacy by carrying visitors through the same waters that once connected military outposts, coastal communities, and wartime operations during World War II and throughout the Cold War.
